Jose E. Guardado

Jose is a Partner at Northstar Capital Management where he  focuses on investment strategy, security selection and portfolio allocation. 


Prior to joining Northstar Capital Management, Jose was a Director in the Financial Institutions Group at Fitch Ratings where he focused on the credit rating assessment of U.S. alternative asset managers and hedge funds. Previously, Jose was a Financial Economic Associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York under the Bernanke and Yellen administrations. While at the New York Fed, Jose worked on the risk assessment of over $28 billion in municipal bond collateral held at the Fed's discount window. Following the US credit rating downgrade in 2011, Jose provided analytical coverage of the US financial and economic environment as well as structural analysis of major global financial institutions including their adaptation to new regulatory regimes. Jose started his career working in Paris and in New York at AXA Private Equity where he evaluated leveraged buyouts of direct interests in mature private equity funds.   


Jose holds a B.A. in Political Economy from the University of California at Berkeley, a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Finance from the California State University and a Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) in Finance and Economic Policy from Columbia University. Since 2015, Jose has served as a Trustee at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City.
